Un Verification Mission in Colombia condemns assassination of two members of the FARC political party in Antioquia.

Bogotá, 17 January 2018. The UN Verification Mission in Colombia condemns murder of Wilman Asprilla Allim and Ansel Montoya Ibarra, FARC political party members that were participating in electoral activities in the municipality of Peque, in the department of Antioquia.
 
The UN Verification Mission expresses its concern over this serious murder, which constitutes the first deadly attack in the context of the 2018 electoral process in Colombia.
 
The Mission values the prompt articulation efforts between the civil and military authorities at national and departmental level in order to clarify the assassinations. In addition, the Mission urges all the competent institutions to spare no effort for an early investigation and the prosecution of those responsible.
 
Similarly, the Mission urges all necessary measures to be taken to guarantee the free exercise of political rights during the electoral process.
 
In the areas most affected by the conflict and within the framework of its mandate, the Mission will pay particular attention to security guarantees for all participants in the electoral contest regardless of their political affiliation.
 
The Mission expresses its condolences to the families of the victims.
