The Security Council extends the mandate of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia

Bogotá, October 31, 2025. The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia was established in 2017 by decision of the Security Council in response to a request from the parties to support the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement signed in 2016. Since then, the Mission's mandate has been subject to annual review by the Council, which adopts a new resolution extending the mandate at this time of year.

Today, the Security Council renewed the mandate of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia for an additional year. This decision reaffirms the international community's commitment to peace in Colombia, ensures the continuity of the Mission's presence and its ability to continue accompanying Colombians and Colombian authorities in their efforts to consolidate peace.

Resolution S/RES/2798 (2025) introduces adjustments to certain aspects of the mandate, in exercise of the powers of the Security Council. The renewed mandate will focus on verifying three fundamental aspects of the Peace Agreement: the political, economic, and social reintegration of former members of the FARC-EP; security guarantees for former combatants, their families, leaders, and communities; and the comprehensive rural reform. These elements are essential for advancing toward sustainable and lasting peace in Colombia.

At the same time, the resolution establishes that transitional justice and the ethnic chapter will no longer be subject to verification by the Mission.

Through its ongoing engagement with national authorities, communities, and its presence on the ground, the Mission will continue to verify compliance with the areas of the Agreement specifically under its mandate and accompany Colombian men and women who are working tirelessly for peace and security in the country.
