Press release of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia

Bogotá, 24 April 2019 - The UN Verification Mission in Colombia expresses its regrets for the death of former FARC-EP combatant, Dimar Torres, which took place on 22 April in the municipality of Convención in the department of Norte de Santander.

The Mission reiterates its concern, consistent with concerns also expressed by the Secretary-General and the United Nations Security Council, for the killing of former members of the FARC-EP which now exceed more than 100 since the signing of the Peace Agreement and the need for adequate security guarantees.

The Mission notes that coordination efforts are ongoing between civilian and military authorities at the national and departmental level in order to clarify the facts in this case.

In accordance with its mandate, the Mission continues to actively verify both individual and collective protection and security measures for FARC members and their families pursuant to established protocols and condemns the killing of former combatants that have occurred subsequent to the signing of the Peace Agreement.
