International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2024

On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we reaffirm our commitment to the protection and promotion of the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples and reflect on their valuable contributions to humanity, particularly the efforts of the more than 115 Indigenous Peoples in Colombia to build peace through their ancestral knowledge and practices.

Indigenous Peoples have been major caretakers of the land, contributing significantly to the sustainability of our planet. However, many of them face significant challenges to their physical and cultural survival due to continued violent actions against their communities and territories. The Ethnic Chapter has been an essential milestone in recognizing and protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, emphasizing the importance of effective participation by these communities so that their voices are heard, and they become key players in the decision-making processes affecting their lives and territories.
