On March 12–13 2026, the UN Verification Mission in Colombia launched a new partnership with the El Tiempo School of Journalism, Colombia’s leading media. As part of this collaboration, a group of nine journalism students travelled to Icononzo, Tolima, near Bogotá, to carry out field reporting on the implementation of the Peace Agreement. During their visit, the students engaged with signatories to the peace agreement and members of the local community.
The participants are final-semester students from some of the country’s top universities who are currently completing internships at El Tiempo. Beyond this initial field visit, the partnership includes training workshops led by the UN Mission, as well as additional field visits, aimed at strengthening the students’ understanding of the Mission’s mandate and the peace process.
The overall objective is to enhance public understanding of the UN Mission and the implementation of the Peace Agreement through informed and in-depth reporting published in the newspaper.
