Message from SRSG Miroslav Jenča on the International Day of Peace 2026
I am delighted to extend my greetings to you today, on the International Day of Peace, which is observed each year by the United Nations. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight this year’s theme, a direct call to invest in peace for everyone, everywhere, every day. It is also a tribute to those who drive local action. Anyone, from anywhere, can do their bit.
Colombia set an example to the world with the 2016 Agreement between the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP. For the Mission and for the United Nations system, it has been and continues to be an honour to accompany the country on this hopeful path towards peace, marked from the outset by the leadership of the Colombian people themselves. We cannot speak of peace without young people.
The inclusion of young people in conflict resolution processes is at the heart of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda. I wish to reiterate the commitment of the United Nations Verification Mission to you, the young people, to the communities, to the victims and to those who have laid down their arms. Peace calls to us, moves us, unites us.
I invite you to join us in pursuing this common goal.
