On Friday, 3 July, Ms. Claudia Mojica of El Salvador assumed her duties as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Deputy Head of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. We extend a warm welcome to Ms. Mojica and wish her every success in her new role.
Ms. Mojica brings more than 30 years of experience with the United Nations, having served in a range of senior leadership positions across multiple regions in the areas of peace and security, human rights, and development. Most recently, she served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Argentina from 2022 to 2026. Prior to that, she worked on conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding in United Nations peace operations in Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Guatemala, and Haiti.
Ms. Mojica also served at United Nations Headquarters in New York and at the United Nations Office at Geneva, where she supported the negotiations that led to the 2016 Final Peace Agreement in Colombia and the establishment of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. She served as Deputy Director of the Americas Division in the United Nations Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (2016–2019), and subsequently as Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Chile (2019–2022).
Ms. Mojica holds a Master's degree in International Relations from The Fletcher School at Tufts University in the United States. In addition to her native Spanish, she is fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole.
