Former combatants in Mesetas, Meta, remain committed to peace

On 29 March, in the former Territorial Space for Training and Reincorporation - TATR, in Mesetas, department of Meta, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, accompanied the installation of the Unified Command Post, together with President Gustavo Petro, government representatives and former combatants, meeting where institutional responses were agreed upon regarding the security situation of close to 200 former combatants and their families, following the threat they received in mid-March demanding that they leave the TATR.

SRSG Ruiz Massieu highlighted the resilience of the former combatants who continue to be committed to peace regardless of the adversities, as well as the presence of President Gustavo Petro in the TATR, which represents a new opportunity to materialize the promises of the Peace Agreement in the territories. "The presence of the president represents, in the view of the United Nations, the government's commitment to peace," said the SRSG during the meeting with the former combatants and their families.
