Chocó: Women, Peace and Security.

The Quibdó Regional Office team was in a dialogue with the representatives of women's organizations of Chocó Department that make up the "Women, Peace and Security Table". In the event, the UN Mission presented the final results of the Laying-Down of Arms from FARC-EP and the role the Mission now plays in the verification of the Peace Agreement implementation, specifically regarding section 3.2 – Social, Economic and Political Reintegration; and section 3.4 - Security Guarantees for ex-combatants and for the communities that have suffered most from the conflict.

The Peace and Security Women's Table was established approximately 9 months ago thanks to the technical support of UN Women and the Embassy of Sweden. It is made up of six organizations of civil society and ethnic authorities of the department: Gender Commission of COCOMACIA, Johana Maturana Foundation, Women and Life Foundation, Gender Commission of the Indigenous Coordination Bureau of Chocó, Chocó Women's Department Network and the Choco Women's Pacific Route.

The main objective of the Table is to strengthen the work among the six organizations through advocacy strategies for peace consolidation from a gender and ethnic perspective. Among their lines of work the organizations analyse the impact of the armed conflict on the lives of Chocó women and the identification of advocacy strategies in the peace talks between the Colombian Government and the ELN.

The UN Verification Mission was invited to this event to share the progress and challenges of the reintegration process of ex-combatants in Chocó Department, specifically what concerns the Territorial Area of Training and Reintegration -TATR of Brisas located in Carmen of Darién and Vidrí, Antioquia.

At the end of the meeting, and by unanimous decision, the women's organizations decided that UN Women should continue in the technical secretariat with the support of the six organizations and invite the MAPP OEA and the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, Quibdó Regional as Permanent Members of the Table.
