New York, 24 September 2018. The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Iván Duque Márquez, President of Colombia. The Secretary-General reiterated the firm commitment of the United Nations to accompany Colombia’s efforts in consolidating a peace process that remains an inspiration to the world. He noted, in particular, the urgency of successfully reintegrating former combatants and in bringing security and development to former conflict zones.

The Secretary-General and President Duque also discussed prospects for peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN). Furthermore, they discussed regional developments. The Secretary-General welcomed the Colombian Government’s assistance to migrants arriving in the country and expressed support for a multilateral fund to help to address the situation.
