Closure of UNMC

The United Nations Mission in Colombia was established on 26 January 2016 to provide support to the peace process. Its mandate ended on 26 September 2017, and its responsibilities were transferred to the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia.

Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on Colombia

New York, 27 June 2017. The Secretary-General congratulates the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC-EP) for reaching another historic milestone today in their peace process.

The Secretary-General is pleased that the United Nations, through the work of its Mission in Colombia, has been able to support the successful implementation of the cease-fire and the laying down of arms agreements. He assures the Government and people of Colombia that the United Nations will continue to support implementation of the peace agreement, as required, in the next stages of the process.
