Message from SRSG Carlos Ruiz Massieu on the second anniversary of the Truth Commission's Final Report

“On the second anniversary of the presentation of the Truth Comission’s Final Report, I would like to reaffirm the importance of implementing its recommendations, which are instrumental in ensuring non-repetition and advancing toward reconciliation.

This report was the result of a valiant and rigorous effort that compiled the voices of thousands of Colombians, capturing their harrowing stories of violence and resilience. It embodied the commitment to put victims at the heart of the Peace Agreement by ensuring access to truth.

On this occasion, I would like to emphasize its relevance and importance for consolidating peace in Colombia.

The Truth Commission is part of a comprehensive transitional justice system. This innovative system is known worldwide for its fair balance between uncovering the truth, imparting justice, redressing victims and creating the necessary conditions for non-repetition. Such a balance, along with the complementary action of all the System’s institutions, is essential to achieving a stable and lasting peace.

The United Nations will continue to support the legacy of the Truth Commission and the entire Comprehensive System for Peace.”
